REV. FR. JUAN V. PONCE, O.P. Vice President for Academic Affairs
I applaud the efforts of the College of Business Administration and Accountancy dean, faculty, staff and students in organizing this year’s Seminar Workshop and Practicum focusing on the triple bottom line (TBL) approach to sustainability. This signifies the interest of the students to embrace new trends and framework in the criteria for measuring organizational and societal success, to include “social and environmental performance in addition to financial performance”. TBL refers to people, planet and profit. I am no expert but let me share my humble opinion on that.
People. There are a lot of scholars who used to talk about the importance of employees in the success of one’s business. We need not enumerate them. We know for a fact that employees can either make or break your business in the performance of their tasks. I wish that when you lay down your business objectives and strategies, you always consider the impact that these have on your employees.
Planet. Time and again, we have been reminded of our apparent lack of concern for the environment. Recent situations and issues allow us to reflect on how to value God’s gift to mankind. Afterall, as Christopher Dadd quoted “we learned that economic growth and environmental protection can and should go hand in hand”. I wish you will always bear this in mind.
Profit. When you think of profit in terms of sustainability, please refer back to people and planet. When we reward them with good deeds-we are receiving not only profit, but blessings.
Congratulations! Rest assured that I am always with you and am supportive of your endeavours.
God Bless and Arriba!
