The first group of FM4B spearheaded a seminar on Financial Performance Management on July 27 at the Quezon Hall. The event aimed to spur awareness on the intricacies of handling financial portfolios together with the risks that go along with it.
With the theme Financial Performance Management: Achieving Optimal Efficiency, the discussion was attended mainly by Financial Management students from different year levels to further enhance their knowledge on their chosen field.
The spotlight of the event was on Mr. Arman Cruz, the guest speaker from Adamson University. Mr. Cruz Cruz can be considered as a young achiever of his time. He successfully manages, at all times, multiple undertakings in diverse areas, including religious, community or civic interests, commerce, politics and the academe. “A fine young man leaving behind a trail of achievements.” He is a lecturer, educator, panelist, consultant and a seminar-trainer speaker of various institutions. He is also a recipient of various awards, recognitions and citations both in public and private sector. He is the Chairperson of Finance and Economics Department of Adamson University and Co-Founder of Finance Educators of the Philippines.

The allocation of assets over time and through risks, uncertainties and fluctuations was the highlight of the speaker’s pointers. He also lectured the participants on how the Philippines Stock Exchange works and how it is affected by economic variables such as inflation, exchange rates and interest rates. The importance of knowing what, where and when to invest the different kind of financial assets and investment instruments was articulated on by Mr. Cruz. He stressed the significance of conducting a thorough research on an investor’s target and/or already invested company to determine whether or not to place and/or withdraw or add money. The psychology of the students in managing and taking risks, where majority turned out to be moderately conservative risk takers, was also assessed by the guest speaker.
Mr. Cruz added that Financial Management students must already have value investing mindsets. Aside from masteral and doctoral degrees, he also encouraged the Finance majors to take qualifying exams for certain certifications such as Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) of different levels, Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Certified Treasury Professional (CTP), Certified Market Analyst (CMA), Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA), Master of Financial Engineering (MSFE) and Civil Service Examination (CSE).
Christine Diane Batalla led the invocation with the interpretative dance of Karen Pagcaliwagan, Maria Roselle Luat, Haliana Herrera and Princess Mary Castillo to the religious song At The Cross to start the program. The Philippine National Anthem followed.
After a 90-minute long talk, the question and answer portion was opened. The presentation of the Plaque of Appreciation to the guest speaker followed. Then, James Bernardino and Francis Joseph Ortega, with guitarist Willbur Marcellano, serenaded the crowd with songs - Closing Time and When You Say Nothing at all.

A closing prayer from Willbur Marcellano and the Letran Hymn ended the program. Eloisa Jean Anengyao and Marlon Araño stood as the Masters of Ceremonies.
